These two animations show the effects of "hinting" in
Flash. Hinting allows you to direct how one shape turns into
another and to make sure the transition is as smooth as possible.
The
animation on the left does not contain any hinting. Notice
how the image is badly distorted as the animation moves
from one image to another. That is because Flash is making
up
some bad transitions.
The animation on the right does have
hinting. Notice that the transitions are smoother. That
is because I added hints
that
told Flash to move the arm from one image to the arm
in another. The foot from one to the foot in another.
Programs
such as Illustrator or FreeHand do a primitive form of
hinting when they allow you to direct a blend
to move from
one point to another. but Flash's hinting is the most
impressive that I know of.
